Have been getting in to Manfred Mann the last few days. Remember them? Songs like “Blinded by The Night”, “Quinn The Eskimo”, and “Davy’s On The Road Again” are best known, but they were at their best well before these songs were released. From www.allmusic.com:
An R&B band that only played pop to get on the charts, Manfred Mann ranked among the most adept British Invasion acts in both styles. The fact that their range encompassed jazz as well as rhythm & blues, coupled with some elements of their appearance and presentation — co-founder/keyboardist Manfred Mann’s bearded, bespectacled presence — also made the Manfreds more of a thinking person’s band than a cute, cuddly, outfit like the Beatles, or sexual provocateurs in the manner of the Rolling Stones. Yet, their approach to R&B was as valid as that of the Stones, equally compelling and often more sophisticated. They charted an impressive number of singles from 1964 through 1969, and developed a large, loyal international fandom that lingers to this day.

I just want an easy way to be able to email the list of tracks I have in a PlayList (in iTunes) to friends (with my comments). I would also like to be able to print it. So, I am looking for something to do this. I came across iLike (http://www.ilike.com/). It looks promising, so I am going to give it a try.

If you google “DropBox SVN” you will find some nifty information on a very nice version control and collaboration environment using these two great technologies. I only discovered DropBox recently - it is one of those great simple technologies.

It is not too difficult to set-up your own Email2SMS server using Postfix, Maildrop and some SMS Gateway. The Bulletin.net SMS Gateway (Connect) is one of the best as they have the patent on 2-way, threaded SMS messaging and it is very fast (carrier grade). The trick is to set-up Postfix with an email catchall. So, you can then send emails to <mobile number>@yourdomain.com and these will be diverted to the catchall. Maildrop will then allow you to intercept these emails, using a mailfilter script, and pass them on to some script. I used a PHP CLI script to do the job. In the PHP script I authenticate the email sender to see if they are registered to use my Email2SMS service. Contact me at mark at azurebell dot co dot nz for more info.

I am loving this album. Fin Greenall, aka Fink, is a singer-songwriter, virtually unknown it seems, yet producing music of uncompromising quality. Great music for coding to!
